"Being nice never pays off"

I have dropped many eaves in my day. In recent days, the eaves I drop are mostly on my roomate here in college. Most of the things that blurt from her pot smoking mouth are quite laughable but also some what forgettable...except a certain phrase that she uttered on one day in Febuary. I was sitting in our bedroom area and just doing my usual thing such as listening to music or drawing...When I began to listen in on the conversation that this lovely girl was having in the living room area. My ears perked as I heard these words: "That's the thing about being nice...it NEVER pays off." I guess that these words struck me because I am just the type of person who enjoys the feeling of doing a good deed and not expecting anything in return. Perhaps she has just lost too many brain cells and is blinded by the smoke and the drink...What do you think? does being nice pay off? of course it does...But, I suppose this young, quite capable young girl, is looking for a different type of pay off...
